My Personal Interests

• Tom's Hardware Guide. [23Dec15] Seldom got time to visit this web site. But once a while, still go to this place to read up.
  [26Oct17] Seldom go there now 'cos I find there are more advertisements. A place where the IT hardware are discussed and appraised.

• HardwareZone. Great place to find out what out are the latest prices for hardware.
  [23Dec15] Nowadays more to read local IT news and reviews.

• Email clients. I like to try all sorts of free email clients. I look for simplicity and elegance. It does not have to be "bloated" to do a good job.

  Currently used by author

  Sylpheed. I went back to Outlook but at the same time pick up Sylpheed.
  [20Apr08] Sylpheed has become the email client for my personal accounts. Getting better at every iteration.
  [11Mar10] I no longer use Sylpheed although I still like it. The downside is that it uses the MH format to store emails and there are few support for this. I now switch to ThunderBird.
  [12Jan15] I'm no longer using ThunderBird, have switched to using browser to access my emails.
  [23Dec15] Seldom use ThunderBird nowadays 'cos most of the time using smartphone or tablet. But I still use Slypheed 'cos I like its simplicity.
  [26Oct17] Using Slypheed 'cos I like it more. Find ThunderBird a bit "bloated" compared to Slypheed.
  [21Jun18] The only issue with Sylpheed is that it is not always good at removing the HTML codes. So reading becomes a bit "congested".
  
  Microsoft Outlook. When I was using a Mac, I used Eudora. It was my favorite then. But my corporate Email system is Microsoft Exchange. So I also have to use Microsoft Outlook. Got to unlearn quite a bit and adjust to the way Outlook works. I don't know if that is progress, but it's definitely learning.

  Eudora. (have not seen any update) For people who are used to Outlook, Eudora takes a little getting used to it. Eudora is going "open-source", so wait for the release in 2008. The beta is out but it is still rough on the edges. (update) I'm kind of cool towards Eudora now.
  [12Jan15] I am no longer using Eudora. Most of time, I am using the browser to access my emails. [19Apr16] Eudora is "dead". No more support. Sad to see it go but that is part of life.
  
  Popcorn. (no longer supported) [08Jul05] I tried a small and simpler program, popcorn. Unfortunately, popcorn is no longer supported.
  
  npop. (no longer supported) [16Nov06] I was using npop as my alternative email client. [12Jan15] I'm no longer using this.
  
  Opera. Link.
  [02May07] But nowadays, I'm using more and more of Opera. It does not have the traditional folder concept but once I got the idea, I kind of like it. It's powerful and flexible at the same time.
  [08Mar08] My C drive is getting full and I don't know how to relocate my mail folder for Opera so I stop using Opera.
  [11Mar10] Manage to find a way to point to another location but I've lost interest and move to ThunderBird.
  [12Jan15] I'm no longer using this or ThunderBird.
  
  Opera Mail. [24Nov16] Switched to use this more. Has the option to write in HTML instead of plain text. I still keep Sylpheed in my desktop.
  [26Oct17] Stopped using this for quite a while.

• Karen's PowerTools. (no longer supported) Good utilities for doing little stuff. [23Dec15] Have not used for a long time. Switched to use SyncBackFree.
  [02Nov16] no longer supported.


• RegSupreme
  [11Mar10] No longer using this, and now uses "CCleaner". RegSupreme was formerly known as Regcleaner. I like this little utility. It is easy to use and does its job. I have not tried out RegSupreme yet.


• Office Suite.
  Microsoft Office. I use Microsoft Office 2016 (and 2013) at work. I also like to try alternative Office suite. Or maybe more accurately it should be programs that create files that are compatible with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  
  Apache OpenOffice 4.1.5 is good, or at least good enough for me. You should give it a spin. But my workplace uses MS Office so I find it difficult to switch. I call it inertia.
  [11Apr16] have stopped using this since I started using LibreOffice.
  
  LibreOffice 6.0.4 is also good. I now switch to use this instead of OpenOffice. [02Feb17]


• Simple Wordprocessing.
  • Jarte. I also use this once a while. It is WordPad with enhancements. My main gripe is that the ruler is not in the default settings. I have to pull it out. But it is fast and has a spell-check module missing in WordPad.
  • QJot. [12Jan15] Also using QJot for RTF documents.

Opinions

• Entrusting the Word (Entrusting the Word to faithful men). This is an interesting web with many good materials for students of the Bible.
• All the 66 books of the King James Bible
